The ACT Hepatitis C Council is a community based organisation representing people in the ACT who are affected by the hepatitis C virus. This is achieved through contributions to territory based policy responses, lobbying for change, the provision of advocacy, support and referral for those affected, and the development and implementation of educational initiatives.

The ACT Hepatitis C Council was formed in 1993 as a non-profit organisation that was committed to a collaborative, shared approach to reduce the incidence of hepatitis C in the community, by health promotion activities, displays and education and to provide non judgemental, confidential support for those with hepatitis C, their families and friends.

The Council is affiliated with other State and Territory Hepatitis C Councils, and is a founding member of the Australian Hepatitis Council.

A community where there are no new hepatitis C infections and the promotion of public understanding and responsibility.

Mission Statement
  • Provide up to date consistent information to people, organisations and health workers regarding hepatitis C and related concerns
  • Provide non-judgmental and confidential support for people with hepatitis C, their families and friends, through phone support, information networks and support groups
  • Advocate appropriate services and changes to legislation
  • Undertake health promotion campaigns to target groups and those most at risk and provide consistent community education regarding hepatitis C, it’s management and prevention
  • Build a strong community awareness about HCV
  • Oppose discrimination based on HCV status regardless of the risk factors involved in its transmission
  • Work in collaboration with other community based organisations working with similar target groups, to provide resources, education and partnerships
